Bench Testing the HRT Servovalve

Connectors

At the case top there are three different connectors to help prevent incorrect hookup.

  1. Input connector for the adapter cable for the plant cable. Using the plant cable provide the power to the test unit.
  2. Output connector for the adapter cable going to the servovalve.
  3. Power connector for wall transformer for bench or plant cable failure.

DO NOT CONNECT THE PLANT AND POWER CABLES AT THE SAME TIME.

Controls and Meters

On the front of the test unit you have the following

  1. Power Switch- is a type rocker switch to turn unit on. I order to run unit you will need either the plant cable connected to the test unit or the wall transformer connected. DO NOT CONNECT THE PLANT AND POWER CABLES AT THE SAME TIME
  2. Frequency control- is a thumb wheel on/off switch and frequency control. If you rotate the switch downward it will turn on the signal generator and will increase the frequency up to its maximum value. Frequency range is .01 Hz to 200 Hz @ + / - 10 volts. Function generator tolerance is +/_ 10%
  3. Motor Current Meter- reads the amount of current that the motor of the servovalve draws.
  4. Command meter- shows the signal being applied to the control circuit of the servovalve.
  5. Voltage/Current switch- will change from voltage to current for the different servovalve.
  6. Range switch- works with the Voltage/Current switch and allows you to select the max voltage or current values going to the servovalve.
  7. Null, + / -, Freq switch- allow you to select +/- voltage or current, null or no signal, or Freq. In the Freq position you will need to turn on the signal generator by using the Freq thumb wheel and adjust to your specifications
  8. Command Pot- below the null switch is the command pot that controls the amount of gain going to the drive from (max neg) min to max (max postive) as selected by the range switch. In freq mode this will control the amplitude of the sine wave from zero up to +/- 10 volts.

Using the HRT Handheld Test Unit

Installed HRT Servovalve Operational Testing

SAFETY FIRST!!! MAKE SURE NO PRODUCT OR PERSONNEL ARE ON OR NEAR THE EQUIPMENT TO BE TESTED

  1. Turn off plant power to the servovalve to be tested.
  2. Disconnect the plant cable
  3. Take plant adapter cable and connect it to the plant cable and then to the test unit.
  4. Take the servovalve test cable and connect it to the valve and then to test unit.
  5. Verify the type of servovalve you have and set the Range and Voltage / Current switches as appropriate.
  6. Place the Null switch in the null position and turn the Command Pot to mid range.
SAFETY FIRST!!! MAKE SURE NO PRODUCT OR PERSONNEL ARE ON OR NEAR THE EQUIPMENT TO BE TESTED
  7. Turn on plant power to servovalve
  8. Turn on test unit
  9. You can see the current draw of the motor on the Motor Current Meter.
  10. Place the Null switch to the + / - position and adjust using the Command Pot and verify operation of the servovalve
  11. After test complete turn off test unit and plant power to servovalve. Disconnect cables and reconnect plant cable to servovalve
SAFETY FIRST!!! MAKE SURE NO PERSONNEL ARE ON OR NEAR THE EQUIPMENT WHEN POWERING SYSTEM UP
  12. Turn on plant power to the servovalve

Bench Testing the HRT Servovalve

  1. Take the wall transformer and plug the connector into the test unit and then plug the transformer it into a 120VAC wall outlet .
  2. Take the servovalve test cable and connect it to the valve and then to test unit.
  3. Verify the type of servovalve you have and set the Range and Voltage / Current switches as appropriate.
  4. Place the Null switch in the null position and turn the Command Pot to mid range.
  5. Turn on test unit
  6. On the Motor Current Meter you can check the current draw of the motor
  7. Place the Null switch to the + / - position and adjust using the Command Pot and verify operation of the servovalve
  8. If you want to automatically cycle the servovalve you can place the Null switch into the freq position. Turn the signal generator on by rotating the Freq knob downward . Adjust the signal level with the Command Pot. Frequency range of the HRT handheld test unit is .01 Hz to 200 Hz at + / - 10 volts. Function generator tolerance is +/_ 10%
  9. After test complete turn off test unit and disconnect cables to servovalve.
